Understanding Properties and Personalized Tokens

Properties help you keep Project and customer information organized. Personalized tokens let you reuse that information in supported email templates, descriptions, proposals and other content.

📌 Subscription limits: Your subscription includes separate limits for Custom Properties and Calculated Properties. The number available for each depends on your plan. Go to Settings → Subscriptions to review your allowances, or contact Support for help.

A property stores a value, such as a Project date or style. A token is the placeholder you select to display that value in your content.

Choose the Right Type of Property

Type

When to use it

Where to learn more

Default system properties

Use the information already included in Curate, such as Project Name, Project Date, Guest Count and customer details.

See the default properties and built-in tokens below.

Custom properties

Capture additional details specific to your business, such as Project Style, Lead Source or an additional contact name.

Calculated properties

Calculate an amount, such as a percentage-based fee, using configured rules and selected line-item categories.

Calculated Property is a Field Type available for Project properties. Its separate guide explains the calculation workflow.

Project Properties and Contact Properties

A property can belong to a Project or a Contact. Project properties describe a specific Project, such as its style or service type. Contact properties store information about a Contact, such as a customer preference.

In Settings → Custom Properties, use the Project and Contact tabs to view the two groups. Both support similar field types; Calculated Property is available only for Project properties.

View and Edit Properties in Project Overview

  1. Open your Project.

  2. Open Overview, or select Overview under Quick Access in the Workroom navigation.

  3. Use the Details tab to review and edit Project information.

  4. Find Custom Properties at the bottom to review and fill in your additional fields.

Some built-in tokens display calculated values or generated links. Update the underlying information in the appropriate Project, customer or payment area.

Use Properties in Your Workflow

Use case

How properties help

Email templates and Project Messages

Insert a customer’s first name, Project date or other saved information using the token selector.

Descriptions and proposal content

Reuse details such as Project Style or Guest Count in fields that support personalized tokens.

Forms and inquiries

Apply a property to a questionnaire question. When the inquiry creates or is converted into a Project, the mapped answers carry into Project Overview.

Fees and calculated amounts

Use a calculated property to work out an amount from selected line-item categories and a percentage.

Insert a Personalized Token

  1. Open the email template, description or other supported content you want to edit.

  2. Click Personalized tokens or Personalize, depending on the editor.

  3. Select the property’s token.

  4. Save your changes and check the result in the relevant Project preview or sending workflow.

For example, use {Customer First Name} for a greeting or {Project Date} for the Project’s date. Choose tokens from the selector so you use the available token name.

A template can display the token name while you edit it. Its value is filled in when Curate processes that content in a supported context.

Using calculated values: link an item’s price to a calculated property to use the result as a charge, or insert its token into supported text to display it. See the Calculated Properties guide for both workflows.
