Curate Texting - Getting Started

How to setup Curate Texting and complete the Company Profile, Brand and Campaign Registrations

Written by Product team

Curate Texting

Curate Texting gives your team a dedicated US local phone number for sending and receiving customer text messages directly in Curate.

Before you can select a number and begin texting, your business must complete the US business text messaging registration process. This registration is commonly called Application-to-Person 10-digit long code registration, or A2P 10DLC.

Our text messaging vendor, regulatory agencies, and mobile carriers require this information to verify your business, understand how you will use texting, and help protect customers from spam.

Who Can Set Up Curate Texting?

You can set up Curate Texting when:

- Text messaging is included in your Curate subscription.

- You are an Owner, Admin, or Super Admin for your Organization.

- Your Curate user profile has an email address that can receive registration updates.

Curate Texting is configured at the Organization level. Your registration, phone number, and texting identity are shared across your Organization rather than configured separately for each user or branch.

Before You Begin

Gather accurate, current information about your business before starting. The registration forms may ask for:

- Your legal business name.

- Your business registration number, such as an EIN.

- Your business type and industry.

- Your registered business address.

- Your public business website.

- Contact information for an authorized business representative.

- Public links to your Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

The information should match the records held by the agency that registered your business. Inaccurate or incomplete information can delay registration or cause it to be rejected.

**Important:** You are responsible for reviewing every answer, including answers Curate prefills, and for confirming that the submitted information is complete and accurate.

What Messages Can I Send?

Curate Texting is intended for communications about active customer relationships, including:

- Projects and event updates.

- Proposals and order updates.

- Payment reminders.

- Customer-support communications.

Curate Texting is not registered or approved for:

- Marketing campaigns.

- Promotional messages or discounts.

- Lead generation.

- Unsolicited sales outreach.

Using Curate Texting for unregistered content may cause mobile carriers to block messages or suspend your texting registration.

How Registration Works

Setup includes three registration steps followed by phone-number selection:

  1. Create your Business Profile.

  2. Register your business as a Brand.

  3. Register how you will use texting as a Campaign.

  4. Select your Curate Texting phone number after your Campaign is approved.

You may be asked for some information more than once. This is expected because each registration is reviewed separately.

The registration forms are securely provided by our text messaging vendor inside Curate. The exact questions may change as business messaging requirements evolve.

Start Setup

To begin:

  1. In Curate, go to **Settings**.

  2. Select **Integrations**.

  3. Find **Curate Texting**.

  4. Select **Connect** or **Get Started**.

  5. Review the setup guidance and select **Get Started**.

Curate automatically prepares the messaging account used by your Organization. You do not need to create or connect a separate account with our text messaging vendor.

Step 1: Create Your Business Profile

Your Business Profile verifies general information about your company and an authorized representative.

Expect to provide detailed company and representative information. Curate associates the profile with your Organization and uses the email address of the person starting registration for status notifications, but you complete the remaining answers.

Review every answer before submitting the form. After submission, Curate checks the profile status before moving to Brand Registration.

Step 2: Register Your Business as a Brand

Your Brand is the business identity customers will receive messages from.

Curate prefills:

  • Your Curate Organization name as the friendly name.

  • Your Curate Organization name as the business name.

  • The email address of the user starting registration as the notification email.

Confirm that the prefilled business name matches your legal business name. If it does not, correct it before submitting the form.

Curate Texting is configured for lower-volume business messaging, so the additional message-volume questions are skipped. If you expect unusually high daily messaging volume, contact Curate Support before submitting your registration.

Your Brand must be approved before you can begin Campaign Registration.

Step 3: Register Your Campaign

Your Campaign describes how your business will use Curate Texting. There are many ways businesses use texting; your Campaign is simply the registered description of what you plan to send and how customers consent to receive it.

Curate prefills the Campaign with the supported operational use case, including:

  • Project and order status updates.

  • Proposal changes.

  • Payment reminders.

  • Customer-support communications.

  • Representative message samples.

  • A text-in consent workflow using `JOIN` as the primary opt-in keyword.

  • `START` and `UNSTOP` as supported resubscription keywords.

  • Required message-frequency, message/data-rate, HELP, and STOP disclosures.

Curate may also prefill your Terms of Service and Privacy Policy links when you have already saved them in Curate Texting Settings.

Review all prefilled Campaign answers carefully. Confirm that they accurately describe how your Organization will use texting, and replace or complete any missing Terms of Service or Privacy Policy links before submitting.

For details about the consent workflow referenced by the Campaign, read Curate Texting: Opt-In End User Consent Workflow.

Your Responsibility When Submitting Forms

Curate prefills information to reduce repetitive data entry. Prefilling does not guarantee that an answer is correct or will be approved.

The person submitting the registration is responsible for:

  • Reviewing and correcting every prefilled answer.Providing complete and accurate business and representative information.

  • Confirming that the business name matches official records.

  • Confirming that the Campaign matches your actual messaging use.

  • Providing public, current Terms of Service and Privacy Policy pages.

  • Ensuring your opt-in process and policies meet applicable requirements.

  • Sending only messages covered by your approved Campaign and customer consent.

  • Correcting any feedback before resubmitting a rejected registration.

Registration Review and Approval

Business messaging registrations are reviewed separately, and approval is not immediate. Review times vary and may take several business days or longer.

From Curate Texting Settings, select **Check Status** to retrieve the latest registration status.

  • A completed Business Profile allows you to continue to Brand Registration.

  • An approved Brand allows you to continue to Campaign Registration.

  • A verified Campaign allows you to select a phone number.

  • A pending registration must finish review before you can continue.

Curate does not currently refresh registration status automatically. Return to Curate Texting Settings and use **Check Status** when you want the latest result.

Correct a Rejected Registration

Some rejected Brand and Campaign registrations can be reopened for correction.

When self-service correction is available:

  1. Open Curate Texting Settings.

  2. Select **Continue Setup**.

  3. Review the rejection details.

  4. Correct the requested information.

  5. Review the entire form again and resubmit it.

Curate reopens the existing registration rather than creating a replacement. If the registration cannot be reopened, Curate will direct you to contact Support.

Select Your Phone Number

Phone-number selection becomes available after your Campaign is verified.

To select a number:

  1. Enter your preferred three-digit US area code.

  2. Select **Search**.

  3. Review the available local phone numbers and their locations.

  4. Choose a number.

  5. Select **Select Phone Number**.

Curate purchases the number, connects it to your Organization, and activates Curate Texting. One Curate Texting number is supported per Organization.

Availability is not guaranteed for every area code. If no numbers are available, search using a nearby area code.

Phone Number Ownership and Portability

Your Curate Texting phone number is assigned to your Organization for use only while Curate Texting remains active. The number is provisioned and controlled by Curate through our text messaging vendor; it is not owned by your Organization.

Curate Texting phone numbers:

  • Cannot be transferred to another Curate Organization.

  • Cannot be ported to another carrier or messaging service.

  • Cannot be retained after you release the number or disconnect Curate Texting.

  • Are not guaranteed to remain available if released.

Releasing your number or disconnecting Curate Texting permanently gives up your Organization’s right to use that number. The number may be returned to the available number pool and assigned to someone else, and Curate cannot guarantee that it can be recovered.

Before releasing a number or disconnecting, update any websites, email signatures, printed materials, forms, or customer communications that reference the number.

Request Customer Opt-In

Your Organization must have valid customer consent before sending text messages.

After Curate Texting is active, you can open a contact and select **Request SMS opt-in**. Curate opens an editable email draft that:

  • Identifies your Organization.

  • Provides your Curate Texting number.

  • Invites the contact to text `JOIN` voluntarily.

  • Describes the types of operational messages they will receive.

  • Includes frequency, rate, HELP, and STOP disclosures.

  • Includes your Terms of Service and Privacy Policy links.

The email itself does not create SMS consent. Consent is recorded only after the contact texts the accepted keyword from the mobile number that should receive messages.

A contact who previously opted out must text `START` to resubscribe. `JOIN` does not remove the carrier's existing opt-out block.

Read Curate Texting: Opt-In End User Consent Workflow for the complete consent process.

Record Consent Collected Outside Curate

When a contact has validly opted in through another method, an authorized Curate user may select **Record External Consent**.

The user must:

  • Confirm that valid consent was obtained.

  • Document how, where, and when consent was collected.

  • Maintain any records that support the consent.

External consent cannot override an opt-out. A contact who opted out must resubscribe by texting `START`.

What Is a Valid Contact Phone Number?

Curate Texting currently supports US phone numbers in the North American ten-digit format. Common formats such as the following are accepted:

  • `3145550100`

  • `(314) 555-0100`

  • `1-314-555-0100`

  • `+1 314 555 0100`

International numbers, extensions, letters, premium `900` numbers, and numbers with too few or too many digits are not supported.

A correctly formatted number is not necessarily a mobile number. If the destination cannot receive text messages, delivery may fail.

Manage Curate Texting

Use Settings > Integrations > Curate Texting to:

  • Review your Brand and Campaign status.

  • Continue an incomplete or rejected registration.

  • Check the latest registration status.

  • Add or update your Terms of Service and Privacy Policy links.

  • Review or release your assigned phone number.

  • Review the supported messaging and consent guidance.

Releasing a Number and Disconnecting

Releasing a phone number is permanent. Texting from that number stops immediately, and the number may later be assigned to someone else.

Disconnecting Curate Texting permanently closes the messaging account associated with your Organization and releases its assigned phone number. This action cannot be undone.

Contact Curate Support before releasing a number or disconnecting if you are unsure about the impact on your Organization.

Troubleshooting

I Cannot Continue to the Next Registration Step

The previous registration may still be under review. Open Curate Texting Settings and select **Check Status**.

I Cannot Find a Phone Number

Your Campaign must be verified before phone-number selection appears. If it is verified but no numbers are available for your preferred area code, search a nearby area code.

Request SMS Opt-In Is Missing or Disabled

Check that:

  • The contact is active and has a valid US phone number.

  • The contact has an email address.

  • Curate Texting is active and has an assigned phone number.

  • Your Terms of Service and Privacy Policy links are configured.

  • Text messaging is included in your Curate subscription and the monthly allowance is available.

  • Your user permissions allow text messaging.

The button is not shown when the contact is already opted in because no additional consent request is needed.

My Registration Was Rejected

Open Curate Texting Settings and look for **Continue Setup**. If available, review the rejection details, correct the form, and resubmit it. If Curate says the registration cannot be reopened, contact Support.
